' (From' 'The Colonist,' 1 Fefo. 4th.) The :Ta,kaka Eabing Club held its annual meeting yesterday on the Kototai course under perfect weather oondiiona. There, was & record attend-j ance, and the course was in good order. I The races were run well to time, and' everything passed off satisfactorily. In the first race Last Card got away from the others, maintaining a good lead, t and won easily, Galamaid being three' lengths ahead of Molly R,. Ranui at j fche finish was well bethind. In the Birch ' Hill Trot Cloraine ' led throughout, | winning by three lengths. The favour*-j ite, Wild Pedo, broke in the second! round. In the first round for the j Takaka Cup, Knight Juan and Baby j were running neck and neck. Emigrel then shot ahead, and kept the lead, I finishing one and a half lengths ahead i of Baby, who was followed by Knight j Juan, half a-length behind. ..little Belgium, in the Rototai Trot, took the lead in the first three furlongs, but Prince Loris forged ahead, passing Little Belgium, and Cloraine improved his position. Prince Loris kept the lead, and won by two lengths. Wild Pedo made several bad breaks, which spoilt his chances. In the Welter Handicap only three horses started. Jiaby and Knight Juan kept well together throughout, being locked for three-quarters of a mile. Baby won by a head from Knight Juan, and Te Kura -was third. For the Publicans' Handicap seven horses were serattched. Emigre'led from start to finish, and won by a length. In the la-st race, the Thompson Handicap, Last Card took the lead with Baby. Emigre then got ahead, and won by a length. Mr A. G. W. West, superintendent of the St. John Ambulance Association, was in attendance in case of accidents. The success of the meeting was largely due to Captain R. Kirk, the president, and th esecretary, Mr A. E. Manners, and the other officials also Avorked very hard throughout the day. Also started: Silveraine, Star of Linwood, Bay William, Wairoa Bell, Oapewell, Wild Pedo. Times, 4.11 h-5, 4.13 1-5, and 4.16 2-5. '
