A Press Association message from Sydney states that Mr W. -A. Briscoe, chairman of the Briscoe Company; has arrived there, and departs for New Zealand at the week-end.
air W. D. Harkness has received a cable from his son, Captain C. D. liarkness, that he is returning by the Corinthic, due in about six weeks' time Captain Harkness was dangerously wounded in the Passchendaele attack in October, 1917. He has been nearly two and a half years in hospital. As a result of injuries, Captain Harkness has lost his right leg from the hip.
Following upon the retirement of Mr W. S. Short, the appointment of MivK. Y\ . Holmes as under-secretary of the Public Works Department is announced. This post he will hold in conjunction with his present position of engineer-m-chief. Mr G. C. Godfrey, formerly chief clerk, has been appointed assistant under-secretary, and consequential appointments are Mr C. E. Bennett as chief clerk and Mr S. Waldie as accountant.
Bro. I. Salek, Grand Master of the jSew Zealand Branch, M.IT., I OOF at a record gathering of Oddfellows at Palmerston North, was presented with a silver tea and coffee service, a silver hot water jug and kettle, a silvermounted oak tray bearing an appropriate inscription, and two gold-mount-ed fountain pens, to commemorate the completion of twenty-five years' service as secretary of the Wanganui district.
