Christchurch, February 18. I There was a big yarding to-day of all classes of stock, particularly fat sheep, fat lambs, and 'store sheep. The sale opened with a firm demand, but the demand slackened-for jail classes Of stock except fat lambs. '*'" •'' " ' • Store Sheep: A big yarding. The market opened . spiritedly, but eased before the close, particularly'for lambs. Forward lambs made 22s to 25s 6d; ordinary,- 17s to 21s 6d; cull lambs, 8s 4d to 12s 4d; owe lambs 21s 4d to, 22s Id; good six-tooth ewes, 325; good fouritooth eyes, 32s 6d; two, four, six,, and eigh-tooth ewes, 23s to 26s 9d; sound and failing-mouth ewes, 18s 6d to 23s 9d; aged forward ewes, 18s 9d to 22s 3d; cull ewes, 12s 9d to 14s lid; sixtooth wethers, to 31s lOd; two a~nd four-tooth wethers, 24s to'2Bs 6d, ! Fat lambs: 7800 penned, compared with 4800 last week. The demand was I keen, representing from 9^d per lb upwards. Freezing buyers operated freely, and securing the*bulk of the entry.. Extra prime lambs made to 355; prime lambs, 29s 5d to 34s 6d; medium lambs, 25s 9d to 295; lighter lambs, 22s 8d to 25s 6d. Fai3 cattle: 385 penned, compared with 319 last week. The market opened at last week's level, but eased slightly towards the end. Extra prime steers made to £28; prime steers, £20 to £25; medium, £15 15s to £19 10s; lighter, £11 10s to £14 17s 6d; prime heifers, £14 to £23 15s; lighter heifers, £8 17is 6d to £13 10 j prime qows, £13 17s C>d to £17; light and inferior cows, £7 15s to £13. Average per 1001b: £2 as to £2 15s. Fat Nine races, compared with five last week, were yarded. After butchers' requirements were met, the market eased to the extent of 2s 6d a bead. Freezing buyers were not operating with their usual freedom, and a number of uens were turned out. Prime wethers"made 38s 5d to 37s lOd; lighter 29s to 32s 6d; extra prime ewes, 42s 3d; prime ewes 36s 6d to 41s 6d; i medium. 31s 6d to 35s 6d; lighter, 23s j Id to 30s.
j Store cattle: Large yarding, bulls pre--5 ponderating. Except for these, values I were maintained. Extra heavy bulls, t£B to £20 : two-year steers, £7 10s ; dry cows, £5 5s to £9 10s. Dairy cows: A small yarding and brisk demand. Aged cows made £8 10s to £11; good two and three-year-old heifers. £10 10s to £16; good dairy cows, £13 10s to £15 10s. Vealers: Average yarding, with good demand. Runners made to £8 2s 6d; medium runners, £5 7s 6d to £6 los; good vealers, £3 10s to £4 15s; small and inferjpr 8s to 30s. Fat pigs: A medium entry. The demand eased during the sale. Extra heavy baconers made £9 to £9 16s; ; heavy baconers,, £7 to £8; ordinary. £6 ;to £7. Average price per lb.. lljd. to 1 Is.
