FRUIT EXPORT.
TO NORTH AMERICA.
(From "The Colonist," Dec. 13th.) j The Nelson Fruit Company, Ltd., asj a result of the visit to America of their j manager, Mr H. IX liundle, have s&-\ cured shipping space for . 25,000 cases, of apples for distribution in Canada and the United States in the months of February, March and April, thus relieving the markets of the early varieties which do not keep". The fruit will bo shipped under the Government guarantee of . one penny per lb, thus netting the f growers here about 3s 4d per case clear: of all expenses. Both culinary and dessert varieties will be shipped, and, as.: there is a shortage of two million bushels in the American crop, with high prices ruling for apples at the commencement of the season, it is expected that dessert varieties (red apples) will bring more than the one penny net: average. Arrangements for the dis-; posal of the apples have been made. with the North-Western Fruit Ex-1 change, of Seattle, which distributes for over 28 packing associations and large individual growers and markets upwards of four and a half million cases under the well-known "Skookum" '■ brand. In order to make a study of the Australasan fruitgrowing industry, and with a view of assisting local growers in the distribution of uneir. apples in America, Canada> England, and the Continent of Europe, Mr H. Fletcher, sales manager-of the North-Western Fruit Exchange, will visit New Zealand, Australia and Tasmania at an early date. Mr Rundle yesterday received a. letter from Mr Fletcher, and he con-j siders that great benefit may accrue to _ the fruit industry here as a result of the visit of this gentleman, who, from the magnitude of the operations■ of the' .association ■ lie represents,, has a very oxtensivo experience on the distribution sicle of the industry. t
