BOOKS FOR CHILDREN.
W© have received from Messrs. Wihitcombe aad Tomil>s, Limited, Christchuroh, a batch of booklets specially written for children by well
known New Zealand writers of juvenile literature. The first to be noticed is "The Adventures of Toby and Sphinx in Fairyland," by Alistor McClune, the motif of which 18 sufficiently, indicated by tho title. The story fills, 119 pages, and the book is admirably illustrated in colour and line line drawing by Alice Poison. Isabel Peaoocke contributes two booklets to the series, the "Bonny Book of Humorous Verse," in two volumes, and "Piccaninnies," which ha#e a Christmas flavour. They are illustrated with much skill and taste by Trevor Lloyd. Edith Howes, an equally popular writer for children, is represented by "Little Make-Believe," a charming fairj story, for which Alico Poison supplios many excellent illustrations.
