The Rev. A. W. Austin, who is to foe curate of the Cathedral, is expected to arrive in Nelson very shortly.
The Board of Governors of St. Antirew's Presbyterian College, Christchurch, has accepted the resignation of the Principal, the Rev. S. R. Dickinson. —Press Association.
Mr It. V. Gully, who has been in charge of Messrs Williams and Kettle's Waipukurau branch for the last four Years, leaves at the end of the month to join tho Farmers' Co-operative Association at Gisborne as auctioneer.
The death has occurred at Wellington of Mr R. Stidolph, of the Gear Meat Company's clerical staff, in his 77th year. He sen-ed with the New Zealand Forces in the Maori War, and was a. proraiuent member of His Majesty's Veterans.
The Otago University Council has .made the following appointments: Dr D. •W. Carmult Jones, professor of systematic medicine ; i)r. Frank Fitehett, professor of clinical medicine and therapeutics ; Dr. John T. Bowie, lecturer on «!iDical medicine.
On Tuesday last there passed away at the Picton Hospital cne of Marlborough's sterling old settlers, Mr ♦I«mos Jackson, of Te Awaite, who was ia his 75th year. The deceased was a son of the la to Captain Jackson, who 'brought an early whaling ship, the "Caroline," to New Zealand waters, and was the first to start whaling operations at Te Awaite, where Mr James Jacksoa was born, and where he| lived ]*is life. From the time he was fourteen years of age ,whon he first entered a whale-boat to take part in a "chase," Mr Jackson engaged in the exciting and perilous life of whaling, and "carried on" until about seven jears r.^o. Ilia old and famous whaiehoat, the "Swiftsure," was presented by him some years ago to tno Christchurch Museum. " In addition to taking an active part in the. whaling industry, he engaged in sheep-farming, and many rears ago took over the Brooklyn Run formorlv owned by Mr J. A., li. Gree'nsill. Hp leaves a widow and five sons and ? even daughters, whilp"k sixth son was killed at Gallipoli. ,
