TELEPHONING TELEGRAMS.
A new suggestion for improving communication was made by Sir Joseph Ward. He asked the Postmaster-Gene-ral to authorise tile sending of telegrams to a telephone number without t.he necessity of telegraphing any name or address. Such a.message when received would be immediately telephoned to the number indicated. ' This would! effect an immense saving of time, and would be of special benefit to persons living outside the radius of the telegraph delivery. This practice was car:!'ed our is some countries The Postmaster-General showed from Cabinet minutes that there was a clear instruction in regard to the war bonus that it was not to be paid where salaries were increased by regrading.
