HARRY DEARTH CONCERTS.
COMMENCING TO-NIGHT. Amongst the greatest of England's vocalists to-day Harry Dearth, the baritone singer whose concert season commences at the Theatre Royal tonight, takes a prominent place. He has been before the concert loving public on the platform for many years, and comes to us in Jus prime, fresh from his Australian successes, where he gave 22 consecutive concerts, in Melbourne alone. In C'hristchurch the opening concert was greeted by a. record house. The "Lyttelton Times" says:—"Mr. Dearth is well known to vocalists as a baritone of exceptional attainments, and as a delineator of character songs. After hearing him in descriptive work, such as 'Old Barty,' a typical west of England song, and 'Dinner Courtship,' drawn from the samo source, desides Sanderson's modern soldier ditty, 'The Company Sergeant-Major,' one can readily realise the claim made for him that he has no peer in that class of song. Mr. Dearth is an individualist. His interpretations are his own, and they most certainly appeal to the-lis-tener. To his admirable vocalisation Mr. Dearth adds the all too rare accomplishment of a perfect storyteller. The easy way in which Mr Dearth overcomes severe vocal tasks is impress sive. He has a big resonant voice, the timbre ringing clear and true throughout an extensive compass. It is forceful and decisive in the more vigorous farm of song, and very appealing and beautiful in the more tender order. At all times the quality is rich, and the enunciation ia so clear and distinct that the ear experiences not the slightest difficulty in catching tho lines." Mr. Dearth will have the assistance of Madame Marie Power (the well-known contralto), Mr. Harold Beck ('cellist), and Miss Carlien Jurs (a pianist of repute in Australia). The season is under the direction of Messrs J. and N. Tait, and the advance bookings at Begg's already denote a highly successful season.
