He paid "a tribute to the excellent services ren , dered by the ladies who had acted as instructors. The cookery classes were , row proceeding, and the staff of tie Nelson Technical School had rendered . valuable assistance. He moved that the instructors bo heartily thanked for tlieir , services. The chairman stated that it was pro- ; posed to hold classes in other centres of the district. j • HOSPITAL REPORT. j The Hospital Surgeon (Dr. Jamiesnn) reported that during the month thero had been 75 admissions, 82 discharges, and 7 deaths, the number of patients remaining in the institution at the en<i of the month being 73. ■ RELIEVING-OFFICERS' REPORT. The -Relieving Officer (Mr H. Coltmap) imported on cases assisted during tr.e month The total amount granted m ; stores and firel during the month to j families in Nelson totalled £22 12s Id. HEALTH OFFICERS IMPORT. The Health Inspector (ivir H. (Joioman) reutiriKl as follows^ —Of infectious disea-ses sixteen cases 6i diphtheria in\d j beeu reported in tiie city during ihe i month, 15 of which had 'been removed to i the Hospital for treatment and the' j premises disinfected. There had also j b^en two mild cases of influenza, both :of which Avere treated at their horn $3. Tn the Waimea County diphtheria cases had been reported from Brightwator, Tahunanui, and Pangatotara ; the cas» at Pangatotara Had not been atteuded to. One case had been reported from Motuekn. Under the Sale of Foo.l and Drugs Act, samples of milk ye- obtained on the 19th and 22 v.l May and forwarded for analysis. On-) sample of : honey had been procured in NVl?on and forwarded for analysis. . i I ■ CORRESPONDENCE. I The Health Department advised that the department's motor expert had left ; for England, and that it was not possible to obtain a motor ambulance in less thuu three months. The Duller ■■ Hospital and Charitable Aid Board requested the board's support in an endeavour lo obtain an amendment of the Act to remove disabilities in obtaining widows' pensions. —Consideration deferred. GENERAL. Dr. Jamieson stated that the room fat the Hospital to foe set aside for sriIdier out-p^atients was now being furnivijed; and it was resolved that certain j alterations to the room asked for_by the Red Cross Committee be authorised. ■ It was resolved that a claim of. ?ix guineas by Dr. Horrax for anaesthetic fees be paid, but the board considered the charge excessive in view of the eir- ,_ cumstances, namely, that the anaesbUe;'.ticß were administered during one afternoon to sis children of a. destitute . family. j In reply-to Mr Hewetson, it was stafced that £254-8s had been paid in anaesthetic fees last year. Mr Hewetaon moved that the Town Committee consider and report on the advisability of appointing a junior surgeon for the Hospital.—Seconded by Mr iWin, and carried. : On the chairman's suggestion comsmittees were set up to. visit the Hospital on the morning of"the day of the board's monthly meetings. ■ It was resolved that the Minister of Internal Affairs be asked to notify the board when he proposed visiting Nelson. .! It was resolved that a letter of tha >fes ; be sent to Mr Haining for a donation to '' the Hospital, the proceeds of a dance at , Mariri,. handed to Mr Manoy.
