APPALLING CONDITIONS IN AUSTRIA.
BRITISH MISSION'S REPORT.
and N.Z. Cable Association^
(Received April 13, 5.5 p.m.)
London, April 10. The British mission brings an appalling report of conditions in Austria. Children are starving in large numbersAustria, which was formerly one economic unit, is now split up into five units, which have raised barriers against each other. This, combined with poor transport, makes it impossible to secure food. Austria formerly, looked to Russia for help, but she is| now looking to the Entente. Austria, has become the most difficult problem; the "world has ever seen, and the shortage of shipping increases the difficulty of rendering assistance. To this shortage is also due the decision to send Polish troops across Germany rather than by s6a to Dantzig.
