RICHMOND.
Last week the harvest" festival services of the Methodist Church were continued, when asocial and sale of 1 produce and fruit was held. Competitions and games, etc., gave enjoyment to the large number present. Miss Collins, of Wellington, sang a solo. The Anglican Church garden party was a great success in every way. Ideal weather favoured the patrons of the gathering, which was held in the Holy Trinity grounds. The attendance was very large, and amongst those present were Bishop and Mrs. Mules and Mrs. Sadlier. The choir rendered several glees, and Messrs. Vitetta Bros delighted their hearers with their music. The following is a list of the stalls and stall holders. ProduceMesdames 'Boyce, Thomas and Robinson. Sweet stall: Mesdames Tuffnell and Coleman. Bran tub: Misses Ring and Challies. Tea rooms: Mesdames 1 Cook, Cross, Croucher, Win, and Misses Dyson, Papps, Croucher and Sutton. Large congregations were present at all services in connection with the Bap* tist harvest festival. The Ren John Laird, B:A., and Pastor E. T Jones were the preachers on the Sunday, and the Rev. W. Wills on Monday eveninowhen a short service was held. ThY church was prettily decorated for the occasion. The Nelson Baptist chdir sang harvest anthems on Monday even- j ing, and these were very much appreciated. The sale of fruit and vegetables followed the service, and these things were speedily disposed of. Wet weather prevented the holding of the open air Prohibition rally oi* Wednesday night that was to 'have been addressed by the Rev. A. E. Hunt, of Wellington. A meeting' however, was held in the Institute Hall, and Mr. Hunt delivered a very eloquent and popular address on the question that will soon be settled by the electors of the Dominion. Mr. Walter Thorn, in the absence of the Mayor, Mr. Wilkes, presided. A. vote of thanks to the lecturer, moved by Pastor E. T. Jones, was carried by acclamation.
A Glee Club has been formed in Richmond. The promoters extend a very hearty invitation to all who are able and willing to-help. ■ The formation of such, a club is ( a step in the right direction, and should not only be a valuable training ground for - the young singers of Richmond, but will be a source of several bright entertainments during the months.
