The tendency on the part, of New Zealand Rugby teams to roiigh play which has been remarked -in several quarters is referred to by the "Athletic News" in its report "of the match Jetween the New Zealand Trench and the U.K. teams at Richmond. "It m?&i?. said at once-" says the Athletic News,'.' "that the match was excellent, and that the spectators were satisfied. The play was hard, though it was .affected by the heavy, greasy condition of ball and ground. But the games played by New Zealand sides are never quite uninterestiug, and ,this was no exception. The New Zealand referee fell in most thoroughly with the wishes of the players, and let the game go almost without any whistle lnings were clone that woujd make an Ernghsh referee turn pale. Fouls were frequent, but no one paid any attention to them, and the off-side rule was forgotten for the time being." j
