A double drowning fatality in the Grey River ■was narrowly averted through the action of Mr W. Swift, o!: Cobden, the well-known guard. Two boys named Pother bridge and Swiff (a son of Mr Swift), were "going whitebait fishing on the CoMen side of the river, when""Petherbridge got into difficulties as he was wading, and the other lad went to his aid." Both were getting drawn out of their depth when Mr Swift, seeing the mishap, dived in and brought them out, one after the other. His timely aid (says the "Argus") saved the boys from what, seemed certain drowning, and he is deserving 01 credit for his plucky act.
