Havelbck is losing a family whose removal will be very keenly felt, in the ; persons of Mr and Mrs A. H. H. Smith/thei president M'the-chib, in a few well-chosen words requested the guest of the evening to accept from the members a silver cake dish, which was suitably inscribed. The recipient was quite surprised but with her"usual indomitable spirit soon' rose to the occasion and in a very neat speech thanked one ond all for the gift, which she said would be valued as* a token oi their kindness. The Rev. A. H. Heron ; was then asked to say a few words, which he did .eulogising the good qualities and great energy of ihe guest, whose place in so many things would be difficult to fill. Mrs W. H. Buckman, as treasurer, also paid great tribute to the man\good qualities of the departing guest, and a-very iileasant evening was brought to a close.

On Wednesday (night a social and dance was held by the general public to bid farewell to Mr and Mrs Scott and , family, a large number of dancers being in attendance, and the Town Hall avhs the scene of'a lively time till well on in the "woe sma' hours." During the evening Mrs Scott, who has been a very energetic member of the various patriotic functions and one who has always b6en ready'to help in any good work, was made the recipient of a gold wristlet watch and bracelet combined. 1 The formal opening of the Haveloclv Tennis and Croquet Clubs season tcek place last week and. the effect of the war was very much in evidence, so many of our brave boys being away on active ; service which tended to lessen -tho number present. Punctually at JV o'clock the vice-president, Mrs A. J i Brown, in the absence of the president j (who was called away on Harbour -Boarc' j duties quite unexpectedly as he was or- j his way to the ground), in a very neat though short speech, declared the club open for the season 1918-39.
