' There is reciprocal artillery activity chiefly in the neighbourhood of the Arras-Cambrai road, La Bassee Canal, and Ypres sectors. A French communique states:— North of tho Somme «c increased our progress east of Avesnes in the direction of Clastres. We occupied La Motte farm. Our elements crossed the Crozat Canal opposite Lies?. Between the Oise and the Aisne there is violent artillery fire and enemy infantry actions. During the night two strong German counter-attacks in the region of Laffaux were repulsed./
