CAUSE OF EXPLOSION.

Wellington, March 8. Evidence taken by the Marine Department at the inquiry into the cause of the explosion of benzine fumes aboard the xiuia recently, flowed that there had been smoKing on tne vessel, the explosion resulting from fumes coming into contact with a- lighted pipe, cigarette, or match. The Harbour Board bylaws prohibit smoking on vessels laden with dangerous goods.
