Auckland, Jan. 29. In txie Police Court to-day, William James Courtney and William Walter Dunn were charged witb collecting money for a war fund without a pei" mit, and stealing 25s Sd belonging to tho Soldiers' Club. The evidence •showed that they went, to the club- ard got a returned soldier to write out a heading for a- subscription list. Courtney pleaded guilty, but asked for leniency, as he had already served at the front, and would return tter'e" Dunn stated that he thought the list v. us genuine. Courtney', "ivno had previous convictions, vas fined £10 for colleetirg funds, and sentenced to seven days' imprisonment for theft. •Dunn was fined £2 on the first charge.
