COASTAL SEAMEN,

UNION SECRETARIES CONVICTED

EACH SENTENCED IX) THREE MONTHS' IMPRISONMENT.

(United Press Association.)

_ Wellington, Oct. 4. . -W. J-- ioung, secretary, and Frederick Howell assistant secretary of the Seamen's Union, were each sentenced to three months' imprisonment for inciting a seditious strike of coastal seamen.

The Magistrate (Mr McCarthy) disagreed with. Young's contention that it was a seditions lock-out and not a strike. Ho said it was idle to contend that the crews came out simultaneously without concerted action. The Seamen's Union was behind the strike, and Young's action showed that he approved and assisted the attitude of the union. Young took a part in inciting the strike, although he succeeded in keeping m the background.
