A GERMAN COMMUNIQUE.

A German communique says: "The English attacks at Thiepval and Guillemont were carried out by detachments of eleven English divisions, several of which were hastily brought from other fronts. The only advance the enemy achieved was the penetration of a few houses in Pozieres at the cost of sanguinary losses. Brandenburg Grenadiers from Douaumont made a heavy counter-attack at Longueval and drove the enemy from the sand quarry southeast of Guillemont, where they temporarily gained a footing in a small trench. The undertakings south of the Somme failed. Since July 14th. we have captured 68 machine gung.
