East of the Meuse;.1 the Geroians delivered an infantry attack by two divisions from the Meuse to Dbuaumont. The enemy were driven back by the French lire at all but one pbint, south of Chauffour Wood, where a footing was gained in a small salient. The German losses were very heavy.. Petrograd reports increasingly intense fighting on the northern front. The German forces have been regrouped for a maximum effort to take Dvinsk, The Army . ouncil's demand for general compulsion at Home has occasioned a revival l of the former Cabinet differences, and an acute crisis has developed. Mr Lloyd George is heading a minority which demands full compliance with the Army Council's requirements, and several resignations are considered probable.
