The death is announced of Sir Clements Markham, as the result of shock and burns received during a five at his residence.

.; Sir Clements Robert Markham, X.C.8., was born in 1830, and entered the Navy in 1844, serving in the Arctic Expedition of 1850-51. He left the Navy in 1852, and travelled in Peru. He acted as geographer to the Abyssinian Expedition, and was secretary to the Rojal Geographical Society for many years. He wa^s an ex-president'of that Society, and also of the Hakluyt Society. He was president of the Inter^ national Geographical Congress of 1894^" 99. ' ■' - /
