The Germans by a vigorous offensive south-west of Dvinsk, succeeded in cutting the railway. The enemy | have been considerably reinforced in the Skidel region. ' The Bussians have made further progress in the TarnopoJ ; district. The artillery duel on the Western front con. ; tinues. A German attack north of Souchez was easily ; repulsed. As a reprisal for the recent air raids at Oompiegne and elsewhere, French aviators bombed German towns and positions in Prance effectively. Another Zeppelin raid on the East Coast of England proved abortive. Mr Lloyd George's appeal for compulsory service has caused a deep impression.
