RICHMOND BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The monthly meeting of the Richmond Borough Council was held on the Bth inst. Present: Tho Mayor (Mr James Hunt) in the chair, Councillors Thorn, Ingram, Rose, Goodman, Batt, and Cross.

Accounts amounting to £40 15s 5d were passed for payment. The Mayor reported on the conference held by the Education Board of representatives of local bodies to obtain their support- for the Technical School. His Worship detailed the proceedings, and .ifter a lengthy discussion the Council decided that it was unable to give a grant at present. A letter was lead from the Station-master-in-chargo, Nelson section, as to having the local railway station connected with tho telephone,—On the motion of Crs. Ingram and Goodman, the Clerk was ordered to write to Mr Young, thanking him. From the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board regarding the Council's contribution.—Resolved that the amount bo passed for payment. From the District Land Registrar regarding Upper Queen street.. —Ilesolv.ed; on the motion of Crs. Batt and Rose, that the Town Clerk take the necessary st-eps and apply for an exemption of Upper Queen street under section 117 of the Public Works Act.

From the Ptiblic Works Department a.s to closing roads and streets. —Received.

From tho Minister of Finance regarding The Belgian Relief Commission. — Resolved that the letter be received.

From the Town Clerk, Nelson, regarding Richmond's proportion of the £259 per month proposed to be contributed by Nelson province ror Belgian relief. —'On the motion of Crs. Thorn and Ingram, it was decided to hold tho matter over for the present, and in the meantime the Town Clerk to ascertain what was Richmond's proportion. From the Mayor of Christchurch on the subject of forwarding goods for the hospital, ship.—Resolved that': Mr Holland ))e written to informing him of what had been done.

From Mr G. S. Haycock as to road inptn!.—Received.

On the motion of Crs. Ingrara and Rose,'tue '.I own Clerk was instructed to write' to the Waimea County Council, inquiring if the Richmond Borough Council could get theii stone-crusher, and on what terms.

From Mr A. E. Taylor regarding ditch in Dorset street. —On the motion of Crs. Ingram and Rose, tho work was left in idie hands of the Works Committee, to report to next meeting. From Mr R. Fanzelow. stating that he had sold out to Mr F. Stone, and asking that his contract be transferred to him. From Mr Stone agreeing to fulfil contract.—Carried.

From Messrs Wilmot an,d Cross, applying for a permit to install hot water servioe in the Star and Garter Hotel. —Resolved that application be granted, work to be done under the supervision of the foreman.

From Messrs Lusty Bros., asking the Council's assistance in making a cuttine; in Champion road. —On the motion of Crs. Ingram and Batt, the matter was left in ;hn hands of the Works Committee, with power ta act. From Mr W. K. Wilkes, applying' for two building permits.—Granted. From Mr Wilkes, applying- for the water to be laid on "to Mr Paynter's property in Edward street. —Resolved that the application be granted, work to be done under the supervision of the ..foreman. Resolved that the Water. Committee meet at Mi" Batt's residence to inspect the main. On the motion of Crs. Rose and Thorn it was resolved that the Council go into the matter .of increasing. thG street lighting of Richmond Resolved that the Town Clerk be cranted permission to exhibit recruiting advertisements outside the- Council Chambers'.' . , , ; The Works Committee reported havinc met at MoShaneV* bridge and do-, cided to extend the bridge Bft on the north side, the work to be gone on with as soon as the weather -.vas ™**™- n The Minor asked the Council if there was any objection to the Patriotic Committee usins the Council Chambers for meetings.-Resolved that the room be granted- when required.
