A NATION OF LUNATICS.
BELGIAN PUBLICISTS ON GER-
MANY'S MANIA
SUICIDAL STAGE 10 COME.
(Received June 2, 8.35 p.m.) London, June 1
Dr. Charles Sarolea, the Belgian publicist, lecturing in America, said that before the Allies obtained victory not only must tho military machine be overcome, but the tremendous moral and driving force of fanaticism behind the machine must come to a conclusion. The whole of the German people were politically insane, and the country was a vast lunatic asylum. This was not metaphor or epigram, out a medical fact. It began with the vicious pride expressed in the delirium of their owngreat■ness, and the spread of the doctrine that the German people were a super-race. The next stage was when the Germans thought that Great Britain was conspiring against them. That brought tho delusion of persecution. The third stage was the delirium of violence now seen in its most horrible form. There were already -signs of fche fourth stage, that of depression and melancholia. Tho last stage would *be suicidal mama. After turning in impudent rage against civilisation Germany before many j months would turn against herself, and ] tho end would be a civil revolution and j internecine strife.
