Wellington, May 7. iho Government Life Insurance Department's annual report states that although tho market price of Govern.-* ment and other securities has nature ally fallen owing to the war, the Le-part-ucnt has been abie to write down its securities t0,,, tho lowest quotation, and at the same time maintain the high level of tho bonus, allotted on previous occasions. Ihe policies numbered 52,273, and the sum assured amounted to £13,797,076. The surplus, after adding £75,458 to the investment and fluctuation reserve amounted to £222,065. Individual bonuses range from 21b to 30s per cent, on tho crigiial sum assured, according to the amount of previous bonuses. The total of reversionary bonuses so allotted amounted to £33^,760. The funds of the Dopartrrent on December 31st wera, £0,033,883. In addition, £189,----121 haol been set aside to meet possible depredations' in assets
