Sir John Erench estimates that the Germans' losses at Neuve-Ohapelle were between 17,000 and 18,000. Eighting continues at St. Eloi. German attacks at Notre Dame deLorette and other points have been repulsed, and Allies' lines* advanced. The Russian offensive continues. In the Carpathians the Russians captured the last Austrian position at Smolnik, taking many prisoners In Eastern Galicia they captured the fortifications 'of Tarnow. The U anted States has anaounced a vigorous protest against the British blockade of Germany.
