STOKE.

(From "The Colonist," Nov. 6.) The Stoke Musical Society rendered the pastoral cantata, "Chloris," on Wednesday evening, when there was an enthusiastic audience. The society acquitted themsolvos' excellently, some of the choruses being particularly good. The soloists were Mrs J. Wood (soprano), Miss Sparrow (contralto) Mr A. P. Allport (tenor), and Mr D. H. Wilmot (bass).' Marked progress has been made by the society during the past year, and"this has been largely duo to the work of the conductor, Mr T. C. C. Scott, who hayS been ably assisted by the pianist, Mrs Scott.
