Auckland, Oct. 8. A strange story is*told'by a woman who h was taken into custody, by the police on a charge of vagrancy. She is "a sin<i;lo woman,. 32 years, of'ago,' and has relatives in Wellington. She states that she came to Auckland to visit the Exhibition, and stayed in a boardinghouse until she spent her money. Then she took shelter in the Domain, where "she*has been living, in a burrow fined with, a remarkable collection of dishes and iother vessels, which, with rags of clothing, afforded evidence of a prolonged stay.. She remaining in hiding during,the day, and foraged for food at night. She apparently, has some education, and .-does".not-.;display any sign of mental weakness. •
