A hot breeze was blowing, and-was sufficiently strong to affect playvbut not seriously. The greens were tricky. - i- • The first round for the championship resulted:—

Miss D. Fisher (Christchurch) beat Miss Chrystall (Christchurch), 3 up and 2 to !play.

Miss WngM (Timaru) beat Miss Wilson (Christchurch), 5 and 4. - Mrs. E. G.; Kerr (Timaru) won from Mrs. Allan (Otago) by default. A pound for the .Coronation Medal was [.also played, the players breaking 80 being:-. Mis- R.
