NELSON HARBOUR BOARD.

MONTH LV .MEETING

The usual monthly meeting of the Nelson Harbour Board was held at the Board's offices, Port Nelson, yesterday afternoon. There wore present: Messrs. G. Macmahon, G. Bishop, T. Bell, 1. Tunnicliffe, H. P. Yyfashbor.rn, \V. Snodgrass, A. P. Allport, and Captain Macnab. -

A l&ttcv was read from Mr. H. R. Duncan (chairman), asking to be excusedj as he would be absent from Nelson. This was granted, and Mr. Macmahon was voted to'the chair.

The bank pass book showed the following balances : —Cr;: General account £1238 13s lOd. Receipts-£276 Is 7d (£313 13s lid in 1913); since April Ist £1854 7s (£2456.5s 3d in 1918); monthly average £309 Is ,2d (£409 7s 6d in 1913). Payments totalled £293 18s Id. The Motueka Harbour Board notified that the dredge John Graham was laying up for repairs, and asking for a remission of rent during such period.— It was resolved that the Motueka Board be requested to keep a correct tally of the time during which the dredge was laid up for repairs, and when a final settlement was made' the Board would consider the matter of a remission.

Mr. Thomas Brown, manager of the Anchor Foundry, forwarded a report on the condition of the.Board's dredge at present hired to the Motueka Board. The Waimea County Council asked permission to remove a quantity of metal from the Boulder Bank. —Granted at a royalty v ©f 4d. a yard. Mrs. Beuke and family acknowledged the Board's letter of sympathy on tiie death of the late Mr. J. D. Beuke.

The Harbourmaster (Captajn Collins)" reported' as follows: —The trade for the period ending 30th September has been well maintained as compared with the corresponding month last year. During the month 122 vessels entered and left the Port, made up as follows: 24 Union Company's steamers, 72 small steamers, and 26 sailing vessels, having a total of 23,315 tons register, as against 24,922 for the same period last year. All routine duties had been regularly attended to. Mr. Bell said that he believed that the restriction with regard to the taking of oysters was being broken, and on his motion it was resolved that the attention of the authorities he called to the matter.

On behalf of the chairman, Mr. Macmahon moved that the question of the harbour loan proposal be further postponed for a month.—Carried. The acting-chairman stated that a vacancy existed on the Board through the continued absence of Mr ; Graham, one of the Government nominees, and it was resolved that the attention of the Government be called to the fact. The Board then rose.
