STOKE ROAD BOARD.
The monthly meeting of the Stoke Road Board was .held on Saturday last, there being present Messrs. J. E. Bartlett (chairman); John Best, T. B. Chisnall, H. T. Palmer, and D. Giblin. -An apology for unavoidable absence was received" from Mr. A. P. Allport, who was granted leave of absence. The overseer (Mr. J. Glen) reported that no work had been done during the month in the Stoke sub-dictrict. In month in the Stoke sub-district., In work done consisted of breaking stones on German Village road, filling in ruts at "W. Robinson's, and putting in culvert on Kelling's road. The Stoke members reported that permission, had been, granted Mr.' Peters, storekeeper, Stoke, to erect hanging- verandah six feet wide, no posts ,to bo erected. .Messrs. Cook and Niemann were granted permission to shift gate on. Best's road, Appleby, to a level spot nearer the beach. The District Felds Inspector (noxious
weeds); advised that- he was -inspecting roads in the district and interviewing settlers.
The Riwaka Hoad Board forwarded copy of a resolution passed by that Board as follows: "That this Board is of opinion that the subsidy received from the Waimea County Council is proportionally inadequate to the rates collected by that body, and further considers a readjustment advisable."-
It was resolved to endorse the resolution of the Riwaka Board.
The Secretary was instructed to invite tenders for carting by the day, and applications for daymen.
Accounts amounting to £31 10s 2d were passed for payment.
