SUEZ CANAL PROSPECTS.
NOT ENDANGERED BY PANAMA
OPENING.
London, June 9
At a meeting of the Suez Canal Company the president, M. Jonnart, reported that the prospects were good! Competition by the Panama Canal would have only a slight effect, and probably the new waterway would prove supplementary rather than competitive. None the less it would be necessary to reduce the Suez traffic charges to those ruling at Panama, and to undertake works to enable ships of larger tonnage to use the canal.
