THE DEPOSITS AND WITH-

Christchurch, June 11. The Postmaster-General announced that the Post Office Savings Bank returns for May are not yet qn.ifce complete owing- to tho absence of reports from the outlying offic-.s n uticularly in the Auckland district, 'i he figures, which will, of course, be subject to some slight modification, are "as follows: The deposits for May have exceeded the withdrawals by £177,321, as compared with £99,516 in May of last year. The excess of deposits in Apri.l was £78,503, compared with £57,217 in April of last year. The.total excess of deposits for April and May, 1914, amounts to £255,824, as compared with £156,733 for the corresponding month of 1913. Total deposits for these two months amounts to £2,175,545, compared with £2,081,847; and the withdrawals to £1,919,721, compared with £1,925,114 for the corresponding months of 1913.
