REGULATIONS TO GOVERN SPEED

[United Fbess Association.]

Wellington, June 11. A circular letter has been sent to all local bodies by the Minister for Railways containing new regulations governing the speed at which motor cars must approach level crossings. These provide that persons driving motor cars shall, when' approaching crossings, slacken speed when within a hundred yards of the crossing to a rate not exceeding ten miles an hour and shall stop before coming into contact with the railway line. A vigilant lookout must be kept by the motorist, who shall not attempt to cross unless the line is clear. The Department will supply distinctively warning boards if required, but has'no obligation to erect them.
