STANLEY BROOK.
A well attended meeting of the local branch of the Farmers' Union was held in the school on Saturday; last, Mr. A. N. Wilkinson, president, in the chair.
Mr. Brereton and Mr. G. Beatson attended, and asked the branch for support and co-operation in the matter of a petition for a railway from Moitueka to Tapawera. These gentlemen, in laying the matter before the meeting, spoke strongly on the many advantages and progress that would eventuate should this railway become an accomplished fact. The absence of engineering difficulties, the large area of land (most of which is closely settled), affected on account of tapping all the tributaries of the Motueka river, together with the fact that a large area of this land will be in fruit and under moi'e intense cultivation in the near future were spoken very fully of. Various speakers agreed with^ _ the delegates as to the future possibilities, of these tributary valleys between Motueka and Tapawera, providing that better transport was available for our many products. The meeting unanimously agreed to support the petition. A hearty vote of thanks to Messrs. Broreton and Boat-son was accorded.
