COLLISION IN SYDNEY HARBOUR.

NAVAL CUTTER RUN DOWN

A STOKER DROWNED

(Received June 9, 8.25 p.m.) Sydney, June 9

The coast steamer Coombar ran down and sank a naval cutter containing three of the crew of a submarine. The cutter was proceeding from the Cockatoo Dock to Garden Island, and in endeavouring to avoid a ferry steamer it was unable to clear the Coornbar. The cutter was struck amidships, and sank immediately. John Reardon, a New Zealander, and Joe MacGregor were precipitated into the water, and were picked tip, but John Groves, the stoker, who was below attending to the fires, was drowned. His body has not been recovered.
