STOKE.

The monthly meeting of the Stoke Road Board was held on Saturday evening. Present: Messrs. J. E. I3artlett (in the chair), J. Best, T. D. Chisnall, A. P. Allport, and A. G. Best.

The overseer's report stated that during the month very little work had ben done on the roads. Messrs. A. G. Best, the overseer, and the engineer met Mr Dickison, had pegged oil the road through Hurstho use's estate to Mrs. Burns's property. It was resolved that the overseer interview Messrs. H. Beatson, Englebrecht, Dicki&m, and Mrs. Biuyies r© contribution towards cost, of road.

■'. The. clerk of the Waimea County Council notified that a sum of £150, being the second instalment of 1912-13 rate, had been paid into the Board's credit at the bank.

Mr. T. Edwards, stationmaster-in-charge, wrote acknowledging the Board's letter re railway crossing at Annesbrook and stating that this crossing had come under the notice of the Department's engineers, and together with headquarters the question of crossings was being dealt with. He promised to make suitable recommendations in regard to the crossings on the Nelson line..

Mr. James Hart, Richmond, applied for permission to put pipos across the road to take water from the ditch on Mr. Thomas' side to' his property in order to water stock. —Granted, subject to approval of overseer. A letter was read from Messrs. Glasgow, Hayes, and Rout, stating that Mr. W. O'Conner was willing to allow the use of road at Appleby bridge provided the Board allowed in exchange a road ten or fifteen- chains long running through his property from the main road (just past Sather» ley's hotel) on to the river bed. It was resolved that the writers be informed that the Board was not willing to make* the exchapge. Messrs. F. G. Davis and others wrote re repairs to Quarantine road. —Left to overseer. ,

Mr. James Cbfrig, dayman, was granted four week/ leave of absence. Mr. J. G: Lifctleiohn, City Engineer, wrote -enclosing lithograph showing the proposed line of-road over Britannia Heights. On the mction.of Mr. A. P. Allport it was -^solved that th-a City Engineer beinforme^ *na* the Board has Inuch pleasure in approving of the deviation of the proposed road over Britannia Heights. Accounts amounting to £9 Is 6d were passed for payment.
