TELEPHONES IN MINES.
" The latest invention £oY giving notice of the presence of gases in mines, is the lleineke system of telephoning recently tried in one of theLancashire pits of the Clifton and Kersley Colliery Company. For its efficient working an installation of pipes and what, seems (says the "British Trade Review") a rather cumbersome portable instrument are needed, but, given these appliances, a smaller portable wireless telephone- that will -fit in the pocket, can be carried obout the mine, so that deputy or ganger, can ring-up if accident occur* or assistance is required. Ths purpose of the invention 'is admirable, and if the working of the portable telephone can be in iv:iv way fimpltfed its handy application should tend to make, tho pitman's -ife more secure.
