NELSON'S GIRLS' COLLEGE.
PHYSICAL- CULTURE DISPLAY
A physical culture display was given by the' pupils of .thd fjelson Girls' College in the School of Music last evening. Th© present giris were assisted in several items by old giris. The performance was witnessed by a very largo attendance, which more than filled the platform. The floor was occupied by the pupils in giving the entertainment. There can be no question that the function was a great success, and that the spectators thoroughly enjoyed the evening's amusement. The programme, though composed almost entirely of physical culture exercises, was not in the least monotonous. Tlw> grace with which th© various items were carried oui; was'<saptivating. Th-» performers were A^umiftrous band, and when the final figur«~was constructed they almost filled the Soor space. Their white and blue uniform was most becoming. The items followed one another without delay, and as the evening progressed the attendance became more and more impressed with the benefit which such instruction, apparently so properly imparted, must be to the girts? who undergo it. Easy smartness <*t movement was a dominating note throughout, while the marching and exercises were carried out with military nicety and effect. From the smallest to the largest pupil, tho parts were filled without btemish, and evidences of studious attention to preparation lor the gathering were visible everywhere. Tho assembly was an enthusiastic one, and hearty applause never failed to follow the appearance of every troupe.' The juniors showed themselves to be quite as dexterous as tho elder scholars, and everybody exercised .to the well-played musical accompaniment* with a decision which, produced a !**- markable effect, and1 reflected <;reat credit on their instructresses, tho !
