NORTH AND SOUTH.
A note of protest was struck by the member for Mars<k".n this evening the discontinuance of the ,'yccond express between Auckland and Wellington, Mr Mandor drawing a comparison between tho North and South In respect to what he contended WQB an unfair treatment of the North.
Whom spe-aking in tho evening, tho Prime Minister referred to his # supporter's criticism. "It is tho intention of the Government to replace the cccond express not later than October Jsb," stated tho Hon. Mr. Massoy, "and (he added) I sincerely hope that .when it is replaced it will be patronised better than on the last occasion, and ua well as it deserves to bo patronised."
Tho member for Lyttelton, Mr. jjaurenson, who followed the Premier, ipoit in a disclaimer for the South istand. "There is only one express run right through the- South Island," declared the member for Lytteiton. ''There is an intermediate train which runs from Christchurch lo Duneain, but to say that two expresses are boing run through the South Island, while only one runs in the North, is ridiculous," protested the hon. member in indignation.
