ASSAULT.
John Gosling, a fireman on the Kaitoa, was charged with assaulting a shipping clerk in the Anchor Company's office, also with assaulting the chief engineer of tho. Kaitoa. Defendant disputed tho amount of wages due to Ihim, but after accepting the amount, and signing off tho vessel, ho assaulted the clerk, and then turned his attention, to. the chief engineer. Defendant expressed regret for what ho had done, and stated that he had had a "glass or two too much," and did not havo a very clear recollection of what jiad happened. Defendant was reprimanded by tho Bench, was fined £2 10s on each char go, in default a month's imprisonment. He was also ordered to pay 2s cab hire, and 10s 6d medical expenses. Tho witnesses did not claim oxponses.
(Before Mr. J. .8. Evans, S.M.) In tho afternoon, a first offender, ■who had been remanded for medical treatment, was brought before the Court, and on consenting to a prohibition order being issued against himself was coHvicted and discharged.
