A TEETOTAL BANQUET.

"Delicious" is tho amusing verdict of tho Diplomatic Corps at Washington on a temperance banquet given by the Secretary of State and Mrs Bryan in honour of Mr and Mrs Bryco.' Eighteen guests wcro invited to meet the British Ambassador and his wifo on tho occasion of their departure, and they inoluded tho Ambassadors of France, Germany, Russia, Japan and Brazil, with their wives. Instead of wines unfermentod- grape juice, diluted with drink water, was served as "punch" in large cut-glass goblets. Tho beverage was flavoured with oranges and lemons, and coloured dark red. It sparkled and bubbled "just like the real thing," but was perfectly harmless. Diplomatic society is now eagerly waiting to see if the .example set by Mr Bryan will bo followed by President Wilson at tho Whit© House.
