ARRIVAL OF THE MARORO.
SEAMAN LOST OVERBOARD,
(From "The Colonist," May 28.)
The three-masted . topsail schooner Maroro, 200 tons, Captain R. Owen, arrived at Nolson from Newcastle yesterday, bringing 287 tons of coal for the gasworks. The vessel left Newcastle on the 3rd inst. 3 and experienced bad weather throughout the voyage, encountering severe gales which alternated with periods during which the schooner was becalmed. After passing Cape Egmont the vessel ran into good weather.
At 3.30 a.m. on Sunday last an ordinary seaman named Leslie Miller was lost overboard while shortening sail during a squall. A boat was immediately lowered, and lifebelts were thrown into the sea, but though the Maroro cruised about the vicinity until 7 a.m. nothing was seen of the man. Miller belonged to Sydney.
