ANNUAL MEETING OF THE
NELSON SOCIETY

Tlio annual meeting of the aboveuamod Society was held yesterday afternoon in Messrs. Rout and Son's room, when Bishop Mulea presided. Mr. H. F. West, tho honorary .secre•tary and treasurer, presented tho report end tho audited balance-" sheet. The rcrrort showed that th& cases brought before the Society numbered 31; referring to horses- 23, to cattle 3. to dogs 4, and one regarding a cat. In only ono case was the .evidence considered sufficiently strong to reader a, prosecution advisable, ami the hon. secretary supplied the police with the necessary informatJon. Acknowledgment was made, of tho assistance the police gave the Society. The handsome gift of £50 to the funds by Mrs. Waring was acknowledged. Tho attention oi tlio public' was"called to the humane killer which is now in the keeping oi tho hon. secretary (Mr. West), and which is ready for use. The .balance eli^efr showed the roceipts to "o £69 4s 9d. and the expenditure to £11 Cs, leaving a cre<lit balance of £57 19s 9d. Tho report and balance sheet were adopted. W. T. Bond, C. E. Moleeworth, and 11. Baiovent; general committee, Messrs N. A. McLaren, E. Jones, W. W. Snodgrass, H. E. Walker, T. Newman, H:. Gay, F. HaaGe, li. Baigent, 11. Watson. J. Anstice, and Mesdam-os Bett and Booth; hon. solicitors, Messrs. Maginnity and Son ; hon. auditor, Mr. R.. Catloy; hon. veterinary inspector, Mr Mitchell; hon. inspector, Mr. H. F. West. Mr. West said he had not tbo timeto continue as hon. secretary ;uk! treasurer, and he did not desire to- be reelected. Mr. E. E. Jones said if Mr, West'would' continue to hold tho offices ho (Mr. Jones) would jlcsiat him as far us ho could. Mr. _West consented to act for tho time being.
The sub-committee of inspection was r'B-o-ppointe-d. . On the motion of Mr.W. W. Snodgrtics, seconded by .Mr.'Raiment, M.rs. Waring'was accorded a hearty vnty of thanks for her handsome donation of £50, and she was requested to .V.low her iiame tp ho added to tho vice-presi-dents of tlie'Society. . Votes of thanks were passod to the honornry. officers, to Messrs; Rout and Sons for the uso of their room, and to tho/chairman. Tho meeting then adjourned.
