QUEENSLAND PARLIAMENT.

THE GOVERNOR'S., SPEECH

SUGAR INDUSTRY LEGISLATION.j

(Received June 17, 8.40 p.m.) N Brisbane, June 17.

Parliament was opened to-day. The Governor's speech indicated that a Bill would immediately be introduced to make sugar-growing and manufacturing in Queensland a white labour industry. It would provide that the growers should receive a direct amount equal to the excise duty, which would be abolished, without deduction in respect of any lien on their crops or any encumbrances.

The other measures foreshadowed include a Bill to raise a loan for the purpose of redeeming several existing loans.
