MOTUEKA.

The usual monthly meeting of the Motueka Harbour Board was held on Thursday last. There were present: Messrs. Charles Fry, H. Everett, H. 0. Holdaway, R. Fry, and J. A. Guy, In the absence of the chairman Mr. Charles Fry occupied the chair.

In his monthly report tho wharfinger stated that the revenue for the month was £103 15s od, as against £98 8s 8d for tho corresponding period of last year. Tho s.s. Moa had arrived with a cargo of chaff, the first of the kind to arrive hero. Inward shipments had heen much larger than usual, the sheds 'being full on several occasions. Work in connection with the deepening of the water at the wharf had boon proceeded with, but more work still required to be done in .this direction.

In reply to the question as to whether there would be a holiday at the wharf on Monday, when the New Zealand warship would be in Nelson, the Board decided that the wharf would be kept open as usual.

The clerk of works (Mr. P. G. Moffatt) reported that the progress of new harbour works had not been quite satisfactory,: especially in the dredging operations by the sand pump, which had been frequently stopped for minor repairs. In the area alrealdy dredged the depth of water was 12ft. 6in., as compared with 6ft. 2in. at the old wharf. Some of the gear of the bucket dvedgeif hart carried away during the month. New parts had been ordered, and when these arrived the dredge would resume work. The fence on tho njow road had been almost completed, but formation work in connection with the remaining portion had been slow on account of the treacherous state of the ground. There still remained a portion of the breastwork piles to bo driven, and 120 feet, of the sheet piling had been fixed in position. A start with.the wharf piles would /be made shortly, the ground in the vicinity having been dredged to the proper depth. Thirty-three thousand feet of timber and piles had come to hand during tho month. There were still a few totara piles and a quantity of sheet piling to arrive. At a meeting of the Motueka Rugby sub-Union on Wednesday evening it was resolved that the time for starting matches be altered from 3 o'clock to 2.30 p.m. Fifteen minutes grace will be allowed, and at the expiration of that time the referee must declare the side that is unable to proceed with the game to have lost the match. For the seven-a-sidc tournament to be held on tho King's birthday eight teams will compete, including tws, from Takaka. The first round will be as follows:— Tikaokao A v. ■ Wanderers N; Hiua. v. Takaka R : Wha!<aiv\r:i. v. Wanderers B ;' Takaka A v. tikaskno B. This will provide an excellent afternoon's sport, and tho inclusion of tho Takaka players wiil add enormously to tho interest in the competition. . About" fifty men of the Territorials assembled in.-Krs. Boyce's > tea-rooms on Wednesday evening" to wind up the year with a smoko concert and suppet Lieutenant Fovsythe presided, and the function was one of the most successful in the history, of the corps. Tho usual toasts were followed by songs and recitations, aud at tho close of thn concert hearty cheers were given for the officers of the corps-
