The second of a series of three lectures will be given by Mr. W. Nortontaylor in the Oddfellows' Hall to-mor-row evening at seven o'clock.

A meeting of the Nelson Aid Society will be held in the Diocesan office on Monday afternoon at 4 o'clock.

The World's Picture Company contemplate building another theatre in Dunedin. Meantime the Garrison Hall has been secured.

Dr Truby King arrives from tho West Coast to-day on his mission to extend the work of the Society for the Health of Women and Children. This evening a public meeting will be held at the City Council Chambers to welcome Dr King and hear an address by him, and meetings have been arranged for Monday at Richmond and Wakeiicld. On Tuesday evening Dr King will deliver a lantern lecturo in the city. On the afternoon of the same day he will address the Women's Christian Temperanse Union.

The members of the Nelson Education Board paid an official visit to the Riwaka school early on Thursday morning. Tho gardens wore first inspected, and tho members expressed themselves highly pleased with the work done. On the party entering the school, an address of welcome was read by Miss Leila Tutbury, one of the senior pupils, and Mr. W. Lock made a very able reply. The children were granted a holiday in honour of the visit. After a brief stay tho party preceded on their way to T&kaka in two motor cars—one going via Brooklyn school. Mr. Crawford, (inspector) and Mr. Williams (secretary) accompanied the Board members. Mr. M. Askew (chairman) and Mr. W. W. French (secretary) represented the local committee. The school flag was flying and tho first official visit of the Board to the district was much appreciated by pupils and teachers. As the cars moved off, three ringing cheer© were given for the party.

The bumble bee is supposed to be very useful. A Masterfcon gardener does not think so. He planted a nice lot or' broad beans, and watched the flowers bursting forth and the bumble bees clustering around them every morning. He is now looking, for the beans; but there are none. An investigation has revealed the fact that the bumble bec-s in their pursuit of food have completely destroyed the crop.

Mr J-lenry Hayward, managing director of Hay wards' Picture Enterprises, has gone to Australia on business connected with the supply of films for the numerous theatres controlled by this tirm in conjunction with West's.

The "North Auckland Times" says: "A movement is on foot for the formation of a Now Zealand dairy secretaries' institute, on the Hnos of a ■similar society' in Victoria, with branches at various dairying centres.

Now the Conservative journals are declaring it is most desirable, most necessary, that Ministers should be on tho wing. Perhaps it is. They are busy electioneering the whole time, because they need to. They realise how slight i s their hold on the country, and that already they are being proved incapable of the duties they have undertaken. All tho same it is just at; well for the public to realise that the Tory party are now swallowing all tlioir own words, and admitting that the cries they mado against the previous Government were, insincere.—Christchiirch "Spectator."
