DEPUTATION AT RICHMOND.

The H©n H. G. Ell (Postmaster-Gen-eral), accompanied by Mr D. Robertson (Secretary of the Post and Telegraph S)(>r<artmer>t), and Mr Harry Atmore, M.P., visited Richmond yesterday morning, and was cordially welcomed at the Borough Council Chambers by the Mayor (Mr J. Hunt, who congratulated Mr Ell upon h-is elevation to Cabinet rank), Borough Councillors, and prominent residents.

Mr Harry Atmoro, M.P., then introduced thoso present as a deputation, who desired to bring several matters under the notice of the Minister.

The Mayor pointed out the necessity of purchasing an area of land alongside the- post office to givo access to the residential portion of the building, and to enable a vehicle to take in mail ratter, etc. At the present time permission had been obtained from the Borough Council to use the- adjoining land. Ho alao asked- that the telephone exchango should be opon between 8 and 9 a.m. and 7 and 8 p.m., The necessity for a statiomnaster or porter in charge at the Richmond station wa3 also mentioned.

Crs W. Cokman, W. Hart, T. Holland, G. E. Chisnrill, and the Town Clerk (Mr S. Fittall), and. Messrs W. R. May, G. Wearing and Lusty also spoke. In supporting the application for a stationmaster the last named mentioned that he obtained all his goods by road, as there was no responsible officer at the Richmond railway station. The Minister1 was also asked by Cr Holland to bring the matter of draining the Railway Department's property at Richmond under'the notice of the Minister for Railways.

The Postmaster-General returned thanks for tho very cordial welcome accorded him. lie promised to make full representations to the Minister for Railways in regard to the matters brought before him, and the other matters concerning his own department would, ho said, receivo consideration.
