DEEP LEVEL SINKING

£ FOR £ BONUS

(Special to "The Colonist.'^

Wellington, May 14

The Government decision to subside da?p sinking at Boatmaii'fl, about 14 miles from Reefton, will encourage a highly important gold mining develor^ment which lias excellent prospects. The Hon. James Colvin, Minister or' Minos, informed me that tho subsidy is on the £ for £ basis up to £10,000. and the sinking will be carried out on tho sito of the old Welcome and Fiery Cross claims, two of tho richest on tho West Coast. They petered out, but th« deeper levels wero never exploited, though, in other parts of the district it has since been proved, tliat tho deeper tho sinking the richer the gold. Sonw shafts are down 2,000 feet. Mr. Colvin understands that English capital is. available to carry out the work.
