''■■ A meeting of the Rhvaka School Committee was held in the school on Tuesday evening. Present, Messrs S. M. Askew (chairman), G. Deck, A. McLean, J. Clarke, A. Duncan, T. Cooke, and W. "VV. French (secretary and treasurer) 4
Correspondence was received from, the secretary of the Nelson Education Board as follows: Acknowledging Committee's balance sheet and requesting that the auditor he thanked; stating that application re drainage at Brooklyn had been referred to Mr Easton; stating that £3 had been granted for cowl for chimney (Brooklyn); enclosing regulations ro infectious diseases ; stating that Miss Bobinson had been appointed probationer to the Brooklyn school.
The head master, Riwaka-, stated that there were 95 pupils on tho roll and that the attendance had beon very good. The Inspector had visited tho school on the previous day. :Tho hoad master, Brooklyn, reported 86 names on the roll. Tho Inspector hod
visited the school that day, Miss Robinson had commenced her duties on tho 7th inst. Ho requested that a few hat pegs bo supplied. ' .- Tho secretary reported that Mr Easton intended visiting the schools next day, and arrangements were'made for the chairman and secretary to meet and accompany him. It was resolved that tho Committee convoy to Mr J. McLean the Board's thanks for auditing tho books; that Mr J. McNab bo asked to attend to the Brooklyn chimney; that the chairman point out to Mr Eastern, on his visit some small requirements at both schools. Tlie Chairman stated that Mr Irwin had applied for the use of the schoilroom on the evening of the 17th inst for the puropse of holding a concert in aid j of improvements to school premises.— Approved. Mr Irwin suggested ways and means of putting the Committee's finances in a thoroughly sound condition. Members j agreed generally, and Mr Irwin promised to bring the schemo forward more definitely at the next meeting. • The secretary stated that a movement was on foot to recognise the long and valuable services of Mr J. D. Fowler as chairman of the School Committee, and it was agreed that such recognition be made at the concert to be held on the 17th inst.
